009 Society 50th Anniversary, Statfold Barn Railway, 16/17 september 2023

Duting the weekend of 16 and 17 September 2023, The Dutch Group attended the 50th Anniversary of the 009 Society at the Statfold Barn Railway. Regrettably, Lucien Eijdems had to cancel his trip, but I took his Yurze Ore Mine with me, together with Creag Dhubh Summit. These two, and Hugo Baart's large De Niggende Saligheijd layout, were on view for the public together with around 50 other layouts. The Dutch delegation consisted of Hugo Baart, Hans van den Boom, Peter Soonius, Sven van de Hart, my brother Marcel and myself. We met many old friends including Garry Whiting, Mick Thornton, Harry Mantheakis, John Thorne, Michael Campbell and many others - the list is too long to do everyone justice. The event was a great success, thanks also to the organisers - the 009 Society Committee and all the support they drummed up. Many thanks to you all!

Below is a small selection of photos I made, the remainder can be viewed in the photo album (press the button under the last photo).

Valkenburg show, 26/27 August 2023

The 2023 show was well patronised with almost 1600 visitors inside two days. A fine selection of high quality model railways and tramways was presented, most of them narrow gauge. Over the years, this show has grown into the premier event in this country for narrow gauge modellers.

This time, the involvement of the Dutch 009 Group was limited, as we are putting a great deal of energy in the planned 50th Anniversary Society event at Statfold Barn. There was Marco Balk and his automated layout Ober-Unter and an Egger-Bahn layout. Despite this, several of our members were active - Gerard vd Weijer assisted in exhibiting Gérard Hendriks' Tramstraat layout portraying the pre-war Eindhoven steam tram terminus. I myself assisted Don Sibley, who came to exhibit his iconic little Rotbacherwaldbahn layout, featuring live overhead wiring and beautifully made tramway track. It was pure fun to operate the intricate little tram layout, which features sprung points and handbuilt track.

Below is a small selection of photos I made, the remainder can be viewed in the photo album (press the button under the last photo).
